HORIZONS OF APPLIED LINGUISTICS
AND LINGUISTIC TECHNOLOGIES

The focus of the conference is on theoretical foundations of applied linguistics, cognitive modelling, corpus technologies, linguistic aspects of artificial intelligence, computer translators and dictionaries, linguistic expertise, communicative and informational technologies in science, education, and business.

 

Relevant topics for the conference:

I.      Cognitive Modelling of the Communication

Language philosophy. Language and culture in the global world. Aspects of language understanding. Cognition, experience, communication. Sign codes of communication. Metaphor, metonymy, mental spaces.

II.      Corpus Linguistics

Linguistic and technological aspects of linguistic corpora construction. Language information encoding. Language researches based on linguistic corpora.

III.      Intellectual Systems of Language Processing

Systems of language understanding. Machine translation. Intellectual human-machine dialogue. Linguistic methods of information retrieval, selection and annotation.

IV.      Lexicographic and Grammar Systems.

Formal models of language systems. Integral description of language. Computer dictionaries and grammars. Conceptography. Linguistic anthologies.

V.      Internet Linguistics

Internet semiotics. Linguistic problems of semantic Web.

VI.      Linguistic Expertise and Legal Linguistics

VII.      Communicative and informational technologies in science, education, and business.  

Virtual systems of professional interaction in linguistics. Information technologies in education. Informatics and knowledge economy.

 

The range of possible topics is not limited to listed above.

Submission of applications and abstracts:

To participate in the conference you should submit your application and abstract (300-400 words, up to 2000 characters, in rtf format in Ukrainian, Russian, or English) till 15 July, 2009 by e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Please specify in the application:

  • Title of the report;
  • First name and last name of the author (-s);
  • Place of employment, position and academic degree of the author (-s);
  • Mailing address, phone number and e-mail address of the author (-s);
  • One of the indicated directions of the conference (I - VII);
  • Form of participation in the conference (presentation, poster presentation, without report).

 

The participation fee is the equivalent of 30 Euro (CIS countries), 50 Euro (other countries), for participants from Ukraine 250 UAH, graduate students 100 UAH

 The reports read at the conference will be published in the book of collected articles or in the journal of the VAK of Ukraine. For further information, please contact one of the e-mail addresses.
